Another moon misadventure

I had sent this envelope to Richard in France back in May, shown on the blog here.



So I was more than a bit surprised to see it back in my mailbox a week ago looking like this:


Particularly when I had included a very clear address on the back:


And removing one of the nixie labels revealed that this poor envelope has had a real struggle to be returned - the first label applied in June, and the second in August!


If you're interested, today's full moon is known as the Sturgeon Moon, as this is the time of year when these fish are easiest to catch in the Great Lakes area.

  1. I never understand why it takes several months to the French post to realize an address is not correct (which on top of that was not the case for this envelope). Each time it happened to me the letter was back three or more months after..

    1. And on top of that, it spent two months wandering around the US postal system. The mail is sometimes a big mystery.

      I hope Philippe received his moon.

  2. It is a big mystery indeed.....I got mail back from South Africa after months of being MIA and it was addressed properly to the correct PO Box.....crazy...

    1. From what I read and hear, the South African postal service is very unreliable - I'm surprised your item was returned at all.
