I m wondering why the machine cancel did not hit the stamp... this is rather strange. The machines are supposed to detect the position of the stamp. And in this case it is in the usual position. It would have avoided this pen cancel.
In the US the machines only seem able to cancel the stamp when it is top right (or bottom left). I have seen other countries' machines manage to cancel stamps in other positions. The ways of the mail are mysterious!
It is a photo of a beach scene taken from high above - so beach umbrellas, and I think there are maybe some surfers in the waves. Could for sure be some kites as well.
