Since I got back into mail art I do try and think of creative ways to use postage stamps to enhance the mail art by theme, color, and sometimes even number.
The planets of your solar system set issued by the post office last year are very nicely done, and have afforded me the opportunity to make some fun envelopes.
Using old wall calendar pages to make the envelopes, here are the exchange envelopes I sent out for April.
And if you're wondering why this post is titled Solar System (II), you can see my first Solar System blog post here.
I used all of the planets stamps on another piece of mail art here.
(PS: I have a bonus letter S that will show up on the blog tomorrow if you feel like checking back in.)
Canada Post released a really nice line of dinosaur stamps last year.
ReplyDeleteAre those the ones with that focus on the dinosaurs' eyes? I received one of them and have yet to blog it.
DeleteWhat a beautiful matching stamps and envelopes, FinnBadger, a delight for the eye, all of them!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I think the set is a very nice one by USPS.
DeleteThis set of stamps is one of my favourites from the USA. Great envelopes too.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bob. I like that they chose to depict the planets at the same size on each stamp (although it did mean Saturn's rings were clipped), and with a black background.
DeleteStunning. Wow!
ReplyDeleteWhat an awesome experience it must've been for the recipients of this mail.
S is for Silver Serendipity
Thanks. I like to imagine them showing up in the recipients' mailboxes.
DeleteHi Phillip - it's amazing what we know about the solar system now ... but it'd be fun to be able to send letters into Space - well perhaps not ...! Cheers Hilary

Fun, yes, but I think prohibitively expensive!
DeleteI really like that you could get matching envelopes too. I do have lots of GB stamp sets but not ones featuring the planets - some of Halley's comet though! Lovely to meet via the A-Z Challenge :) http://pempispalace.blogspot.co.uk/2017/04/s-is-for-solitary-sapien-solar-system.html
ReplyDeleteHalley's comet stamps sound great. Thanks for stopping by.
DeleteBeautiful! We have a postal system in Ecuador but I rarely use it. I occasionally have something delivered to a local restaurant from the US. I have only mailed one envelope in almost four years. So, I do not use stamps but I used to like them when I lived in the US.

Wow, I cannot imagine sending just one letter in four years.
DeleteWow, these are super. Although...I prefer my solar System... :)
ReplyDeleteHaha, I thought you might.
DeleteI do not have a favorite set of stamps. I like how you paired the stamps and the art envelopes. Hopefully the recipients enjoy as well.
ReplyDeleteI always hope they'll enjoy my envelopes as much as I enjoy receiving theirs.
DeleteI liked the stamps with Pets on them. The lady at the post office told me that a lot of people didn't because of the snake. Poor snake, always so frowned upon.
ReplyDeleteOnce Upon a Time
That's a bit odd to not want the set of 20 stamps just because there is 1 snake. If you don't like the snake, use it to send something you don't like much, like a bill or your tax returns :)
