I had to look hard for a stamp for today - finally found this vintage one I received from Finland.
It is a picture of Lammi Church in Lammi, Finland built in the early 1500s. It was issued in 1956 with a value of 30, this version is from 1957. For links to more postal places of worship, head over to Sunday Stamps.
A 5 century-old church! Wooow!
ReplyDeletePretty amazing that it is still standing.
DeleteOne of my own favourite stamps which I have shown before.
ReplyDeleteIt's a classic for sure.
DeleteI bet the stonework of this church is a sight to behold in real life.
ReplyDeleteI am sure it is. Fascinating to think the stones have stood for so many generations.
DeleteWHERE I LIVE (COLORADO) THINGS ARE OLD IF BUILT IN THE 1800S. (EXCLUDING NATIVE AMERICAN CLIFF DWELLINGS AND SUCH)
ReplyDeleteHere, too. My home is considered old - and it was built in the 1890s.
DeleteI didn't thought it was so difficult to find stamps on this theme...
ReplyDeleteI think there are not so many places of worship on American stamps, where most of my mail comes from.
DeleteBeautiful church, I always love Finland's steep sloping roofs.
ReplyDeleteHelps with the snow!
