I had read last year that the USPS was ending its Lunar New Year stamps, so I was pleasantly surprised to see that the first stamp issue of 2020 is this beautiful stamp. The design features a rat mask, and the circle represents the new moon.
There's some gold foil on the stamp that you don't appreciate in the USPS online image. Here's the stamp on an outgoing Postcrossing postcard.
What do you think of it?
The blue surprised me, because most of Lunar New Year stamps are based on red. But, otherwise, I like the design and it looks cool in person.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if the blue shades and stars around the eyes are more representative of the new moon in the night sky.
DeleteIt's a beautiful stamp
ReplyDeleteI was surprised how nice it is in person.
DeleteThanks for the info!
ReplyDeleteThese look promising! I didnt like the last series because they ddn't have the animas on them...
ReplyDeleteFortunately they animal is back to prominence now. I did like that the previous series gave me more insight into the customs and traditions surrounding the lunar new year celebrations.
DeleteI like it - though I'm not sure I would have recognized it as a rat if I didn't know.
ReplyDeleteI think the teeth give a bit of a clue that it is a rodent of some sort :)
DeleteI like that especially the starry eyes. Nice to know that we will be seeing more lunar animals in the future from US Post.
ReplyDeleteI really like this first entry in the new series.
DeleteI love that sketch! The starry eyes on the stamp seem a bit scary to me :-) The stamp however looks better than the Dutch stamp. But that sketch... I love it!
ReplyDeleteIt is from the film Ratatouille.
DeleteThe best I've seen; I wish I could sketch like that.
ReplyDeleteSo do I!
