I rarely get mail from South Africa, so this stamp arriving last month on a letter was a surprise.
Issued in 2010, this non-denominated stamp comes from a set with the theme of traditional Beaded Artwork, and features a Bhaca neckpiece. The amaBhaca are a part of the larger Bantu people originating in Southern Africa.

I love this. Crafts are a nice theme for stamps.
ReplyDeleteThe whole series is very colorful, as are many African traditional pieces.
DeleteAt first glance I thought this was crochet, but beading makes much more sense!
ReplyDeleteThe stamp is fairly small, so definitely hard to see - and the spacing does look like crochet.
DeleteSouth Africa has produced some great definitive series. I like this theme.
ReplyDeleteA pity the actual service is so poor.
DeleteCraft pieces are a feature of SA stamps. We can't match them.
ReplyDeleteAnd with the SA flora and fauna, their stamps are usually very attractive.
