Christmas mail continues to arrive.
This card from Eva describes me perfectly. I don't mind carols, but I don't need to hear them everywhere I go 24/7 starting from October.
Yes, the tree is still up. Not sure when it's coming down.
Dolly Parton leaves hers up until the 19th (her birthday).
Is your tree still up?
Most of the decorations have come down. The tree stays up until Jan. 6. The ornaments were removed last night. Himself has to take the topper off and the lights. Then the tree will be taken down and everything packed away. During the Middle Ages, Winter decorations stayed up until Candlemas (2/2) The wreath on my door will stay up through Feb. if it's still green. I have Christmas curtains with cardinals on them in the living room/dining room, kitchen and bathroom. The curtains will stay up through Feb. too. I rationalized the red cardinals are like valentines.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing, CJ. And thanks for the historical information - I love the name Candlemas. I like the lights on these dark nights and cold dreary days. The tree has always been taken down before St Valentine's day, but this year, who knows!
DeleteTraditionally, the Nativity scene has been in houses and churches from 8 December (Immaculate Conception: its holiday in Spain) until 2 February (Candlemas, not official holiday). I don't know if everyone follow that rule any more.
ReplyDeleteAt home, there is no Christmas tree this year. The holiday decorations will be taken down probably the next weekend.
I share your feeling about carols! Although, this year, I have barely heard any carol.
My favorite radio station (plays 80s and 90s music mostly) switched to Christmas 24/7 at Thanksgiving.
DeleteI think a lot of people in the UK/US have taken them down by the 6th of Jan.
Fortunately, even though your card took about 7 weeks to arrive, I could still put it in the tree for its photo shoot.
Seven weeks! My Christmas postcards to France needed more than 4 weeks (and, of course, they arrived after Christmas and New Year). Some of them, even to Spain, haven't arrived yet... :(
DeleteMail seems slow here and in Spain - I think it has combined for a long journey for mail. Worth the wait, though :)
DeleteEn principe on garde le sapin jusqu'à l'épiphanie et après la galette des rois on le retire :) Je l'ai retiré hier .
ReplyDeleteAlways interesting to read what different people do.
