President Macron chose a design by street artist Yseult Digan, aka YZ, which he described as depicting Marianne as a politically engaged young woman. Link to article at art news.
I think the blue Europe rate below is the first of the new design I have received, and it comes from Heleen who was on vacation in France. Thanks for the unexpected mail!
'Penny for her thoughts' made me think of the fact that the first stamps issued in Britain cost 1 penny :)
I did not know that that was how the Marianne designed changed. I always like to see how her image is depicted and changes over the years.
ReplyDeleteThe different Marianne's make for an interesting journey.
DeleteI like the stories behind the Marianne stamps, I think they are my favourite long running definitive series.
ReplyDeleteIt is nice that they change every so often yet keep similar characteristics.
DeleteWhat I like more on this envelope is the thoughts of Marianne... :D
ReplyDeleteYes, Heleen came up with some creative thoughts for sure.
DeleteLong ago, I wrote a post about Marianne's stamps that might interest you.
ReplyDeleteI spent a long time trying to link my Marianne stamps to the President that chose this. Macron has picked a beauty.
ReplyDeleteI agree, a fitting continuation of this tradition.
DeleteAlso I didn't know that presidents were choosing the design!.. Nice aliteration for today, too :-)
ReplyDeleteHappy that my mail arrived well. It was puzzling how to find cards, stamps and a mailbox, because it only was a two days stay in France, visiting friends (who stayed there for a week :-) ). But we managed, and of course I couldn't resist to take a picture of the mailbox in which your mail started its journey. See:

I did not find the process so easy in France either. And I check your instagram once a week or so, so I did see the postbox.
