Cinco de Mayo

A stamp was issued in 1998 celebrating Cinco de Mayo, the day in 1862 when the Mexican Army defeated the much larger forces of the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla.

Generally celebrated these days in the US by drinking margaritas - although I wonder if there will be much celebrating this year given the COVID19 pandemic.

Stay inside if possible, and explore the links to more celebrations at Sunday Stamps.

Be safe, everyone.

  1. Here in NL the 5th of May is named 'liberation day', 'Bevrijdingsdag', the celebration of the end of WW2 (usually, because also here in NL events are canceled, now, too)

  2. It is nice to see this colourful stamp, and written in Spanish! I didn't know about this celebration. I guess nothing can stop your drinking margaritas at home ;)

    1. You've been to quite a few foreign lands. I always wanted to go to Mexico City and see the sea of VW cabs (amongst other things).
