H is for Hortensia

Hortensia is the Spanish (and French) word for hydrangea, as seen on this lovely stamp from 2009, sent by Eva.  H is also for Happy Spring in the northern hemisphere, with the equinox being yesterday.

Hydrangeas are a favorite of mine, although my yard does not have the best conditions for growing, so I only have 2 small bushes.

Do you like hydrangeas? Apparently pop star Madonna despises them, so if they're not your favorite you have famous company :)

  1. Hortènsia is also a woman's name, although not very popular these days.
If you like these flowers, you need to go the Galician (northwest of Spain) or the Azores islands. You'll find thousands of them!

  4. I love hydrangeas for their long lasting flowers. There is a Hortensia Walk in Ploemel, France around the Lac au Duc which has over 5000 of them of different varieties, gorgeous. My camera did overtime that day.

  6. Les hortensias doivent être plantées à la mi- ombre dans une terre acide ,à default leur mettre de la terre de bruyère que l'on trouve en jardinerie :)
