XX

I'm sure you remember all the zombie calendar envelopes I sent out last year. Well, it's time to revisit my favorite one that I sent to Jean.

Earlier this year she blogged its arrival as part of an occasional 'bird on head' series, and the nasty postal sharpie was in full play to cancel the stamps that had mysteriously been franked on the wrong corner by the postal machine.

Except this time the giant black Xs through the stamps are so perfect! Thanks mystery guest collaborator ;)

  1. This time it isn't so ugly. But they should reconsider this odd way to cancel (?!).

    1. I think the postal workers are just doing the fastest thing so they can stay on time with their deliveries. I agree, the sharpie and the biro are the enemy of the mail artist.

    2. And the enemy of the philatelist too...

  2. I'm convinced the postal worker was collaborating. I have never seen a full X. The most I have seen is one bold diagonal. Someone with an aesthetic eye was adding to artwork.

    1. I wonder how many of us would have itchy fingers when it comes to adding a little something to mail art passing through our hands?

    2. i tried a couple times to get my letter carrier to add things to my envelopes. he was such a nice guy, but, really didn't want to add anything. the only collaboration-with-postal-workers-accomplishment i can boast about is this one - i put an envelope out for him to pick up and wrote on the front, please take this home and give it to your wife to deliver to sandy, the lady on her route who gets all the mail art. his wife was also a letter carrier and i know he did as i requested because the next time i saw him, he said his kids noticed the letter that he had left on the kitchen counter for his wife to pick up. i can do a search on my blog and see if i can find the envelope. i'm sure i posted it. it might have been a postcard.
