Food for Peace

The theme for this week's Sunday Stamps is food, and the stamps on this envelope that Jean sent almost two years ago fit the bill.

The 5c food for peace stamp promoting freedom from hunger was issued June 4, 1963 on the first day of the World Food Congress held in Washington DC.

  1. I like this stamp,. The design really looks vintage and non-American!

    1. I wonder if the designer was trying to emulate a fork for eating, not for pitching :)

Or maybe the lines going up represent the desire to have food supplies going up?

  4. I've seen quite a few Freedom from Hunger stamps but can't recall seeing the Food for Peace message before although I imagine the US provided a lot of grain food aid.
