An octopus named Hank

Technically Hank (from the film Finding Dory) is a septopus, not an octopus, because he only has seven tentacles. And as it turns out, he's orange.

I sent him to Eva and Heleen, using the new postcard stamps.

What animal would you like to receive on a piece of mail art?

  1. Is it a coincidence that Heleen posted this one today? (I had scheduled it).

By the way, I didn't know the septopus exists, and that this one is called Hank. And among the things I learned this morning... thanks to Heleen's post I discovered that this was actually an envelope. I thought it was nothing inside, silly me! but the sender, I had recognised immediately.

    1. I believe that the only septopus in the world is Hank :)

I wrote to tell you there was something inside, but that letter may not have reached you yet.

    2. It was coincidence!
If I had known earlier who the sender was I would have posted it earlier. And if I hadn't, I would have posted it after seeing this FinnBadger's 'A to Z, O' post :-)

    1. It is hard to think of an animal I don't like, I have to say I find the octopus fascinating.

  3. An octopus in Germany was very good at predicting the winners of World Cup, or was it European Cup, football matches. No idea whether he was orange.
    An hunky dory post!

    1. Haha! I very much doubt he was orange...

    2. His name was octopus Paul.
He sadly passed away in 2010.
(and wasn't as orange as Hank)

  4. Hank is such a fun character! If someone sends mail art with an animal to me, I would like Mort from the animated film Madagascar.

    1. A warthog would be a great mail art animal - there's one in the Lion King, isn't there?

  6. Didn't know he was missing a tentacle. Since my kids grew up, I've been out of touch with these wonderful stories.

    1. Apparently the model they created didn't have room for 8 tentacles, so they give him some sort of a back story to fit the septopus idea.

  7. I'd like an owl please:)
Also Hank here is adorable and so are those stamps. Saw a couple on Eva's post and liked them a lot.

    1. Owls are pretty amazing, aren't they. My Greek mail art friend Katerina frequently uses Athena's owl in her mail art.

    1. Even though I didn't do a very good job of letting the recipients know there was something inside, I think that Hank brightened their mailboxes.

  9. That's pretty cool! I never thought of mailing something like that. As to what animal I'd like to receive? Probably a skunk or a ligar. =)

    1. The great thing about mail art is you can mail just about anything. A ligar, huh? Are you a fan of Napoleon Dynamite?

  10. I have not seen wither film, however those pieces would be fun to receive. I don't know that I could pick one animal I would want as mail art, too many interesting ones.

  11. Hank looks happy.

I like postcards of ocean animals - I'm a member of postcrossings and I send ones with photos of Pacific Ocean animals that live in my part of the state (sea otters, seals, etc.)

  12. We have toads in our back yard singing from the pond, so I suppose I'd most like to get mail from toads and frogs. A fine question, Finn!

  14. I didn't know the septopus's name was Hank. Also is a septopus a real thing or did you just make that up? I mean I'm sure there are octopuses in the ocean missing legs due to … whatever, but is there actually an animal that is a septopus that is separate from an octopus?

Anyway, to answer your question, I would want Dory (of the Finding Nemo crowd) on my envelope. :)

I've sent mail with some pretty bird stamps before. That was fun. I'm sure you (in particular) could do (or have already done?) something really creative with that. :)

    With Love,
    Mandy

    1. I cannot take credit for septopus - that is all Pixar's doing. I believe it is only a real thing in the film.

I'm sure I have sent bird-related mail - there have been some wonderful bird stamps in the past couple of years.
