I is for Illustrator

This stamp was released in xxxx 2001 (thanks Heleen, and the stamp!) as part of a sheet of 20 American illustrators to celebrate 100 years of this artform.

This stamp features Nora McMein's work, which frequently appeared in advertising and magazines.

  1. Illustrators, of course I love this theme :-)

I hadn't seen this stamp nor the stamp sheet before. According to the FDC's which I saw on ebay.nl the sheet has been issued in 2001.
And I see also John Held jr is honoured by a stamp - would he be the same John Held jr as the mail artist?

  4. I've not seen any of these stamps, what a superb sheet, great link. So many illustrators are not credited in old publications, the unsung heroes.

    1. I was just thinking today that all of our lives have been influenced by countless illustrators, yet I bet most of us (me included) cannot name even one.

  5. I always pay more attention to the illustrations than the words (books, adverts, etc), and yes these artists should get more credit
