Today is the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. Any celebrations originally planned have, like most other events, been cancelled due to COVID-19.
The planet is certainly getting a break from pollution during the lockdowns and decrease in factory output and traffic.
I thought I would have a mini stamp celebration for today.
Eva sent me some of these wonderful climate change stamps, along with some drums that will, sadly, not be necessary.
These were sent on a very thought-provoking postcard.
Some more of the climate change stamps arrived with an icy vista.
They were sent on this excellent Alaska postcard.
And taking a very fast 10 days from being written to arriving, Heleen sent a fantastic snow leopard stamp...
...and a jaguar postcard.
I love this Spanish pro-earth serie!
ReplyDelete(P.S. I think it hard to distinguish the two felines when seeing their portrait only :-D Just by the typical jaguar 'spot in ring of spots' on his/her body I can see it's a jaguar :-) )
I love this series, too. I was a bit surprised a lot of them have slogans in English.
DeleteAnd yes, definitely hard to decide just from a face on view. Like Finn and Moby :)
The illustrations of these stamps were taken from signs of protesters during the 2019 United Nations Climate Change Conference, held in Madrid.
DeleteI guess some of the protesters wrote the signs in English because international journalists were there. A couple of stamps are in Spanish, as you can see here.
Thanks for the link. Looks like they issued the designs as postcards too, which is a nice idea.
DeleteI have a couple of them to be sent.
DeleteThey are such great designs. All different, yet form a cohesive set.
DeleteA climate change stamp was due to issue on 26 March (the winning design of a stamp competition). But I think all the issues have been put off.
ReplyDelete@Heleen I've sent you some of these stamps, haven't I? At least, on the Groundhog Day letter. I hope, because they are sold out, impossible to get now :|
Thanks again for sending them, they are fantastic.
DeleteSo far stamps continued to be issued as usual. They have stopped having first day of issue ceremonies.
J'adore toute cette série de différents timbres et cartes postales ,the stamp "Act now or swim later " is one of my favorite but i think too " Jack london ,Nicolas Vanier "but when i hear the word "planet earth" there is a Devo song that comes to my ear :)
ReplyDeleteI like the fact that the stamps bring so many associations to you.
DeleteOf course ,did you remember this song ?
DeleteI don't know this song. The only one that came into my mind is Duran Duran's 'Planet Earth'.
DeleteDevo is an American rock band from Akron,Ohio formed 1973 :)
DeleteI know the band a little, just not this song.
