The theme for Sunday Stamps is flags.
A couple of Dutch stamps sent by Heleen.
The German and US flags vs the Dutch lion on Football/Soccer World cup stamps:
And a stamp featuring the flag of Gelderland, one of the provinces of the Netherlands.
You can see the blue, yellow and black flag at wikipedia. The words of the Gelderland anthem 'Ons Gelderland'(Our Gelderland) are featured on the stamp.

I have got a couple of those, too :)
ReplyDeleteI expected so :)
DeleteThe Gelderland stamp confused me until you explained it.
ReplyDeleteIt took me a minute to find that information on the anthem
DeleteI like the flags on the soccer balls. Just had an amusing thought about putting unpopular political leaders and unelected leaders on soccer balls. 😺👟 ⚽🥅
ReplyDeleteHaha!
DeleteI rather like that idea, CJ!
DeleteA lion would make a useful footballer with four legs although not too good with the headers wearing a crown. Great stamps.
ReplyDeleteI'm often surprised where you can find flags on stamps
DeleteI am pleased to see a province of the Netherlands, because I learned about using "the" in lower case, and how Holland is not the entire country, but provinces, when I researched a stamp I shared! Th soccer ball flags are unique.
ReplyDeleteIt. is curious how, for many, Holland = the Netherlands. Like people using England, or even London, when they mean the UK. Language is always fascinating.
DeleteThe Gelderland stamp is very original: I like it!
ReplyDeleteIt is; at first I didn't realize the top and bottom of the flag/stamp were different colors.
DeleteThe Gelderland stamp is subtle and unique ( a great way to learn your anthem!). I like the positioning of the soccer balls and the lions.
ReplyDeleteI like that too, as if they are moving around on the pitch.
