Poets & Insults

.

The English language is full of colorful insults dating back centuries - just look at Shakespeare for some creative comebacks. This set of three 20-year old envelopes (from an article on English usage, if I remember correctly) has a few of them.

Stamped with my three remaining poet stamps - I have no idea if any of them used any of these words, though.

Envelope 118 sent to Karen I.

Envelope 119 sent to Karen N.

Envelope 116 sent to Jean.

Jean's came with an interesting liner effect.

Not one of the envelopes - the dogcat, and 'All Around Columbus Town'

There are some envelopes that are better when they are not cut to the rigid templates of my numbered envelopes.

Here's one withe address side:

And the back:

Only a cat would do something like this!

And on the topic of cats, this next 'not one of the envelopes' was sent to Cara and Taco.

29 faces in september part VII: envelopes 150, 120 & 246

19/29: #150 to honi c

Honi C sends me bonus mail every once in a while. The odd scanner effect adds to the mystery of this image (for a change).

Johnny on the brain.

20/29: #120 to Lettres et Images

This is the youngest of the original set (it's still over 20 years old)

I like the global + Lincoln combo for the vertical address.

I forgot to scan this one with the flap up.

Improving the composition to a grouping of three, and using purple for the address.

29 faces in september part VI: envelopes 381, 359 &198

16/29: # 381 to Currie

There were several candidate stamps for this one, however I really liked the circus stamp. I've had a hard time using them as they tend to be quite dominant on an envelope (plus the large ones are extra large).

If only I had one of the Star Wars stamps for this one. I do like the smile on Gwendolyn Brook's face on this stamp.

18/29: #198 for Rose

Sometimes the scanner doesn't do so well with white edges.

The first appearance of Miles Davis on the blog, I think.

29 faces in september part III: envelopes

7/29: #380 to Adrienne

These people look like they're having fun.

I think this is the first appearance of the global ocean temperatures stamp on the blog. It's not my favorite stamp, however I think it looks great here.

Apparently the rest of the US likes it, as it has completely sold out, as has the 2013 global forever stamp, which I like more. So currently if you want a global stamp you have to buy last year's holiday wreath. Until late October when you can buy this year's holiday wreath.  (I really hope they do other designs and not just a new wreath each year).

This is one of the 20-year-old envelopes.

Stamped

Addressed. The scanner acting up again - I kinda like this version. Plus I couldn't get it to scan correctly once the address label was on.

Scanner handling the reverse just fine.

9/26: #103 to Hester

This is another one of the originals.

I like placing the poets stamps over other faces or eyes.

I like the colors and patterns appearing on the back

Envelope 82

It's the third day of Richard. He surprised me with yesterday's entry, so I thought I'd shock him by responding more quickly than usual.

This is one of the twenty-year old ones.

Envelope 82

Stamped with poets' faces (sadly the poets are no longer for sale).

Simply addressed.

And the derriere.
