Heroes and poetry

Patricia sent me this envelope quite some time ago. I liked the TV series 'Heroes' a lot, and was disappointed when it was cancelled, and when the reboot suffered the same fate. So it was nice to see Hiro on these personalized stamps.

And inside was this unexpected collage/found poetry.

Mail Me Some Art - Found Poetry

I decided to guest host an MMSA exchange with the theme of Found Poetry.

I didn't participate in the exchange myself, however I was fortunate enough to receive bonus cards from Susan

and from Laurie. 

Both arrived on 'Big Mail Monday'. In these great painted and rubber-stamped envelopes.

The added bonus of hosting one of these swaps is the wonderful selection of envelopes swappers send their postcards in. It was also great to see several first-time swappers, including Rachael who takes part in Jean's envelope exchanges.

The idea of MMSA is to send postcards through he mail, however Andrea's were sent to her in this envelope with a few added artistamps.

Found Poetry (and Fauxhio)

Found poetry is exactly that - finding poetry in words that were not originally intended to be poems.

There are several definitions, including the most restrictive, which is to find poetry without removing any text. A good example might be William Shatner reading Sarah Palin's tweets.

I prefer finding poems by deleting text. I have a blog devoted to a project where I have people send back poetry found in the pages of Treasures of Morrow, a young adult novel by H. M. Hoover.

Here are some found poems I have been sending out occasionally with my mail art. They all come from a desktop page-a-day calendar.

F is also for Fauxhio is the fictional place where the artistamps (also known as faux postage or cinderella stamps) I print are issued.

I use the first two stamps quite a bit, usually on envelopes, occasionally on mail art itself. The second two are ones I ordered that are impossible (small brown) or finicky (purple) to use. 

Occasionally, I'll create a special first day of issue postmark. I adapted an old scifi TV channel logo. And sorry about the cut off scan - back from my days of ineptitude with the scanner.

And here's one where I didn't have such good control of the postmark stamper.

Where would you want to post your own stamps from? A real place? Somewhere fictional?

Always fun to receive a package in the mail... this one came with an intriguing Taiwanese customs form.

And even has art on the back (I'm not sure if the words were torn, or if this is as it was sent).

Amongst other things, William included this cool piece made using a camera-less photographic process called chemigram.

Happy Halloween, everyone!

Let's start the day out right with a found poem from Lost Highway by Hester.

Mailed with this great spider stamp. The Alexander Calder stamp looks supernatural, too. And as for the butterfly.... Silence of the Lambs, anyone?

Carroll sent this great postcard that definitely fits in with today's festivities.

She is a master at filling the address side with art, too, and used a great mask on a vintage stamp. Money - the root of all evil. And running - the evil of all evils.
