I love the matching lettering inside the envelope.

The Candy Moon

Today is the full moon known as the buck moon. I am going to rename it the misadventure moon. Even though I labeled it a postal misadventure, it is really down to my own clearly advancing senility.

I mailed this to Candy on May 4th, and had it scheduled on the blog as part of the May flower moon post.

Of course it bounced back to me May 20th because I didn't include the PO Box part of the address, so I had to pull this envelope from that blog post quickly. Silver lining - it came back with a nixie sticker added!

And finally redone and resent May 23rd.

More moon phases sent out to LWA, PinkyPost, Rose and Heleen - where I took some liberties in addressing her as Mevrouw ('Mrs' in Dutch) and calling her country of Netherlands 'Holland'.

And more for Carroll, Jackie, William, Alan, Dorothea, and Adrienne.

Candy's letter

Candy sent out letters for letter writing month, and I was the lucky recipient of this stylish envelope and bonus matching notecard.

I picked up a packet of pre-stamped envelopes from the post office.

First one sent to Candy.

April was national letter writing month

And Candy decided to write a letter every day... and I think she wrote more than one on some days.

She sent her letter in an envelope made from her own paste papers - this thing is amazing, there's a lot more shine to it in real life.

Winter exchange part 3

This beauty arrived from Candy. The design is taken from one of her paste papers she made, and the snowflakes are embossed, which adds texture. I love the way the serifs on the first 'i' and the 'l's form a diagonal, echoed in the flourish on the 'h'.

This is what the scanner thought of it on first scan. Really crazy how it likes to invert the colors when it senses certain ones. It left the snowflakes silver, though.

Cathy sent me this outstanding take on a Christmas tree. So many clever things going on - the small basketballs as ornaments, Wilt placing the treetopper, the tree itself, and the ornaments with my name that reflect the ornament stamp.

And the note inside has amazing cutout-snowflake edges - delicate, too, you can see where it tore during scanning.

Winter Exchange - the Christmas catalogs

For the largest portion of the envelopes I sent out for Jan & Jean's winter exchange I used a Paper Source catalog. The colors in the catalog went really well with Winter Fun, Rudolph, Holiday Bauble and Global Wreath stamps.

On the topic of Paper Source, Eric had admired the bag I sent to Jean, so I sent him another one I had acquired.

The USPS philatelic catalog also made for some great holiday envelopes that worked well with a lot of the holiday stamps.

This one to Jack isn't from a catalog, although it looks a bit like it. It is from one of those pages of a magazine suggesting gifts for men. I thought this looked good with one of the modern art stamps.

I seem to be drawn to black and white photographs of faces, both 20 years ago as well as now.

Envelope 117. Sometimes the scanner has a mind of its own in deciding what to scan...

Another chance to hide Mr Cash...I like to think he could be whispering advice in her ear.

Exchange 15 - Candy heart

I really like the flourishes on the ascenders that loop down below the letters. Thanks, Candy!

I have always admired calligraphy, and had a lot of respect for calligraphers. I would love to be able to create these amazing letters, but don't have the time to invest in learning. So it has been great to see so many different styles of writing on the envelopes.

Envelope 88 : Exchange 14

This should be the last of the envelopes I sent.

The front:

Stamped: I popped the international stamp where three countries' borders come together.

Addressed: I chose an area for the address that wouldn't cover the neat city-markers, and emulated the font of the country names (see the back view below or the front view above). Maybe I should have tried to cover the '?' a bit better?
