Thats a good one! My friend is visiting the UK and mentioned Boxing Day but I don't know what it is..
The exact origin of Boxing Day is a bit obscure, but the most common version is that it was a day that the upper classes gave their servants a 'Christmas Box' and allowed them the day after Christmas off. In most parts of the UK December 26th is a public holiday. Not in Scotland, though, where they like to celebrate New Year for two whole days!
Thanks for the explanation. I keep on learning - until now I always thought 'Boxing Day' to be an American tradition! Here in NL boxing day as a presents day is not celebrated, however 26th December is a public holiday here, too ('2nd Christmasday, as are '2nd Easter day' and '2nd Whit day').
Beautiful asperges and lobster!
Thanks, I liked this Christmas grocery bag design a lot. And not many people here in the US understand Boxing Day, and it is not normally a day off on the 26th unless Christmas falls on the weekend.
