J is for Jimi Hendrix

Philippe C heard about the Jimi Hendrix stamps - I think from one of my paper bag envelopes I sent to Eric - and asked if I would send him some mail art using the stamp.

This is what I came up with using the selvage to create a different view on one side:

Philippe sent me this wonderful envelope. I love how he took the colors from the stamp (which has its own sun scene) to create this sun mail art.

I only keep count of the smaller size envelopes I make by hand.

I love how he chooses his colors and turns each number into something abstract.

Lots of questions on my mail art recently - I like abstract art in particular, and also on mail art, and especially when it is one of Philippe's stunning painted creations. 

This one seems to have so much movement in it. I can almost see people on motorbikes racing around a track (leaning into the curve). What do you see?

Black and White Brain

Philippe sent me this large slide of a brain MRI. It arrived in good condition, only very slightly bent which is amazing given how thin the imaging film is between the cardboard.

The French Moon

This Eric Monday (part 7) might be a little out of sequence because I wanted to take advantage of the full moon today, known as the strawberry moon. 

A couple of added 5s to my moon phase addresses (and a little cheating by sending them to three Monsieurs in the Republic of France).

Today is also the solstice - not common to have the full moon fall on the same day - the last time was in 1967! And the next time is 2062... so check back in 46 years and I'll have the second in this special series of blog posts.

A stunning envelope from Philippe. He added the question mark to this spectacular stamp. I think that USPS would consider the stamp to be canceled by the question mark, but fortunately for me La Poste is more relenting for the sake of envelope art.

Any time I find an envelope from Philippe in my mail it makes me think I should give up mail art - he is so creative and artistic. This abstract painting works so well with the rose stamp.
