Q is for Quilled Heart

The watercolor calendar envelopes work well with other stamps, too. Here is the Quilled Heart stamp on envelope 778 (and the 2015 non-machinable butterfly on 779).

Quilling is the art of using scrolled paper to make 3D artistic compositions. Wikipedia has some info, but better is to google  'quilling' to look for images, many of which are stunning.

The Quilled Heart stamp is the 2016 entry into the USPS Love series. Digital images of this stamp do seem more vibrant and show more detail than the actual stamp, although it has grown on me.

  1. I learnt what quilling is thanks to this stamp!

    1. I learned some time before, but also thanks to mail.
Elena, Andy 'myrealwall.com' Hoang's wife had made some beautiful quilling pieces of (mail) art :-)

And this is a beautiful stamp, which I was lucky to see also in real.

By the way, 'quilt' is an other English word which is similar in Dutch (the verb will be 'quilten'). 'Quilling' is not that known here in NL (and a verb 'quillen' sounds weird, as it sounds a little like 'kwellen' which means 'to tease':-) ) .

  2. The enlarged photo does show of the intricacies of the craft much better. I have now a greater appreciation for the stamp (though it is still way too small!)

    1. Perhaps that is the problem, although the stamp is not as vibrant as the online image either.

    1. No, never tried - I feel like I would be horrible at it. Probably like most things it takes lots and lots of time practicing to be good at it.

  4. Wow love that enlarged version, beautiful. The watercolours go well with it. Someone is issuing quill work for this year's Christmas stamps but for the life of me I can't remember who.

    1. I haven't seen the stamps you are thinking about, however the Isle of Man Christmas stamps are gorgeous this year.

    2. Thanks for mentioning that - they look nice in the online pictures - I hope the stamps aren't too small so the detail can be appreciated.

  5. at first glance I thought these were FDCs - they complement each other so well, the stamp and the envelope!

  6. I'm sure that Viridian will love the quilted heart as quilting is one of her interests I know.

    1. I'm guessing you misread 'quilled' as quilted - different things, both equally interesting.
