1984

It feels sometimes and in some ways that we are living in the novel 1984.

We are all living in Lunnispark (part 2!)

This great envelope arrived from Eva a few days ago.

It features stamps of characters from los Lunnis, an award-winning Spanish kids T program, as well as another great climate change stamp. 

As Eva wrote, we are all living in Lunnispark at the moment.

Things that fly on stamps

I showed this stamp last week, and this week here it is again - Royal Mail's 2018 large blue butterfly stamp on a postcard.

There's a plane symbol on this international world rate Belgian stamp. Interesting that the word world is in English, and that the design is a stamp and airmail sticker combined. And I'm not sure what to say about the color choice (sickly green?) not to mention King Philippe's expression on this stamp. 

And an angel from Royal Mail's Christmas 2007 stamp set.

Earth Day

Today is the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. Any celebrations originally planned have, like most other events, been cancelled due to COVID-19. 

The planet is certainly getting a break from pollution during the lockdowns and decrease in factory output and traffic.

I thought I would have a mini stamp celebration for today.

Eva sent me some of these wonderful climate change stamps, along with some drums that will, sadly, not be necessary. 

These were sent on a very thought-provoking postcard.

And taking a very fast 10 days from being written to arriving, Heleen sent a fantastic snow leopard stamp...

...and a jaguar postcard.

The color blue

Today's theme for Sunday Stamps is the color blue. I have selected stamps sent by Scott, Heleen, Eduard and William.

First up, a Large Blue Butterfly on this British stamp from 2018 that is from a set titled Reintroduced Species.

Next is a (mostly) blue international stamp from the Netherlands from a series of Dutch Icons. 

Here is a definitive stamp from the 3rd series of the Russian Federation. This stamp is representative of industry.

And finally, from Taiwan, one from a set on blue and white pottery.

Ocean forest

Mail from Spain arrived for the first time in a couple of weeks and it was in pristine condition with very nice calligraphy.

Eva sent this nice card, titled ocean forest, on March 16. That's about four years ago on the COVID time scale :)

I can't read the postmark clearly, I think it might be dated March 27 or 29. I like the classic car stamps, very stylish.

Super moon mail from Fafa

This week's full moon was a supermoon, and I received some super moon mail from Fafa.

I love this stamp set, so it was nice to receive a few more.

And just as excellent on the inside.

There was an additional item that is too shiny to photograph so I will wait until I can access a scanner.

Pink Moon

Today's full moon is known as the pink moon in north America. This is moon mail sent to Heleen.

This one of Saturn's moons, Iapetus, which is named after a Titan in Greek mythology.

The sea stacks of Po Pin Chau

Usually when I think of Hong Kong I think of this type of view:

But of course the entire place can't be skyscrapers, as shown on this stamp of Po Pin Chau sea stack, located in Hong Kong's Global Geopark. Click this link to wikipedia for more information. The rocks are examples of hexagonal columnar jointing. The stamp is from the series of definitives issued in 2014.

...and Heleen sends a favorite cat.

Heleen sent me this envelope where she cleverly fit my name to the shape of cats. Complete with feline stamps and washi tape.

And inside was a drawing of the one and only Finn.

Thanks so much, Heleen, you really captured his look in this beautiful drawing.

Heleen noticed that I didn't have any lion stamps, so she very kindly rectified the situation.

She sent similar mail to Eva, who received a sealion.
