Turquoise

Today's Sunday Stamps theme is minerals and gems. I chose turquoise which is featured on this 2c stamp, set in silver in a squash blossom design with crescent motifs at the bottom. The turquoise looks pale in my scan, for a better image and more information about the stamp, the National Postal Museum has a great page.

The 2c Navajo Jewelry stamp was issued in 2004, and reprinted several times due to price increases in the days before 'forever' stamps. There's a detailed article here.

Here it is on a couple of envelopes I sent in 2020 to celebrate it being a leap year.

This stamp is part of the definitive low value postage set featuring American Design. It was withdrawn from sale in 2019.

  1. I lovely piece of jewellery, I like its accidental longevity as a make up stamp, a nice one to use. Great clock.

    1. It is a bit wild that the 2c Navajo stamp lasted 15 years, and we;ve had two different sets of definitives since then - fruit, and flowers.

  2. Yes the turquoise color is a bit washed out, but still a great stamp.

  4. I've seen that stamp, and yes, it's more turquoise in color. A pretty stamp. Isn't that type called squash blossom necklace?

    1. It is lovely, glad it stuck around, and I learned quite a bit about the stamp's background and history.
