F is for Fish

The theme for today's Sunday Stamps is the letter F

Eva sent me this wonderful (and large!) stamp, showcasing fish, and fishing, as a major component of Spanish gastronomy.

Despite the importance of fishing in Spain, consumption of fish has decreased recently, and Correos has issued this stamp has the slogan: 'Fill your table with the sea'.

The stamp also has a very. nice foil effect, which is a bit hard to capture in a still image. Eva also mentioned that she has an additional reason to like the stamp - it shows the correct postage to send to the USA :)

  1. 2.40 Euros to send to the USA! More expensive that USA international postage. Interesting foil effects.

    1. The US has one of the cheapest postal rates for letters, both domestically and internationally. The UK is even more expensive - 3.20 to send an overseas letter ($4.30). 2.40 euros is $2.80. While we might be unhappy that international postage went up again, $1.70 seems like a bargain

  2. People often complain about stamp prices in the US, but I always think of it this way, you get someone to come to your doorstep (or mailbox) take a letter, drive/fly it anywhere in the US or US territories and up to someone's door (or mailbox) for the price of a stamp. And international, a lot more travel for not much at all!
I like the foil on the fish. It's been along time since I lived 6 months in Spain. I don't remember eating much fish then, seafood yes, paella had chunks of fish, but mostly clams or mussels as the seafood part. This was on the coast too. I don't care for fish, rarely have it other than the occasional canned tuna or fish sticks!
