A sun from Philippe

Philippe sent me this wonderful envelope. I love how he took the colors from the stamp (which has its own sun scene) to create this sun mail art.

Squirrel time!

Definitely that time of year when squirrels are getting more active as they prepare for winter... and squirrels in the mail, too.

How many pieces of mail art have you sent?

I only keep count of the smaller size envelopes I make by hand.

I think Philippe counts everything...

I love how he chooses his colors and turns each number into something abstract.

Eclipse pictorial postmarks

I sent eclipse mail for the August envelope exchange, as well as to many of my mail art friends.

Here's my envelope to Jean before posting.

And I made use of the many special postmarks available for what was, in my opinion, the best 2 minutes of 2017, and chose 3 of my favorites. They seem to have arrived at their destinations by now.

Eva blogged hers...

So did Eric...

As well as Heleen, who showed this over at IUOMA.

Thanks for the nice blog posts and comments everyone, I had fun putting this set together.

Do you enjoy abstract mail art?

Lots of questions on my mail art recently - I like abstract art in particular, and also on mail art, and especially when it is one of Philippe's stunning painted creations.

This one seems to have so much movement in it. I can almost see people on motorbikes racing around a track (leaning into the curve). What do you see?

Why do bananas have spots?

(Because they are leopards in disguise!)

Thanks for the mail art and great joke, Limner.

More minions!

This time the minions were stamped with round stamps - the golf ball and the global stamp from 2013.

The rest of the August exchange envelopes

Yesterday I showed the fun golf envelope.

The rest of August's haul is below.

Scientific code from Jean.

Pollination from Kate.

Outer space from Kathy (enlarge to check out the little added stars and planets).

A doodle from Bug.

G is for Golf

From the fun set of 'Have a Ball' sports stamps, here's a very clever envelope I received in the August envelope exchange from Lynne.

Each stamp has some texture to it as well - on the golf stamp you can feel the dimples really well.

Black and White Brain

Philippe sent me this large slide of a brain MRI. It arrived in good condition, only very slightly bent which is amazing given how thin the imaging film is between the cardboard.

Cats and a stamp booklet from Christie

Great envelope from a cat calendar from Christie.

And a cool handmade stamp booklet inside.

Europa theme - castles

Each year the group of postal services in Europe have a themed stamp idea that they all (usually) issue during the year. This year the theme is castles.

Katerina sent me the Greek stamp, and Eva sent me the Spanish stamp.

Eva's letter contained a lovely long letter, and Kat's contained this lovely piece of mail art, ready to hang on the wall :)

F is for Feathered Friends

Heleen sent me an unusual little package with these wonderful bird stamps.

The stamps feature the Tjif-tjaf (Chiff-chaff) and the Groene Specht (Green Woodpecker).

You can get a better view with this image. The stamps can be scanned using an app to hear the sound each bird makes.

This amazing piece of mail art was a bit harder to document than normal...after carefully removing the outer wrapper, there was a baguette bag...

And inside was a very long continuous piece showing beautiful drawings from Heleen of all the birds I mentioned I liked a while ago. Plus some other birds collaged on.

This was a big 'WOW'. Thank you, Heleen!

Amazing mail art from Jon

I have no idea how Jon printed on these cards so nicely. Each one is amazing.

Creating a monster

I like how Eva made this envelope from a magazine page, and I like the creature arising from the pen.
