Candlemas

Today is Candlemas, the 40th day of the Christmas & Epiphany season, and one of the days some choose to take Christmas decorations down.

If you follow this blog, you'll know that religion (other than on stamps) is not a big thing here. however I love the name Candlemas.

And an unexpected and lovely hand-made card arrived a while ago that made me smile, and looks nice in the tree - thanks, CJ.

(And yes, the tree is still up! Probably coming down this weekend)

  1. The postcard is very nice. We used to celebrate Candlemas when I was a child, but now it's a "forgotten" day...

I'm afraid you are leaving the tree for next Christmas... ;)

    1. The living room really needs to get back to normal. And the tree has always been taken down before St Valentine's Day :)

  2. I'm glad the card was a nice surprise. I think I had heard Celts kept their Yule decorations up. All that nice green through the long Winter. I went to parochial school, but don't remember celebrating Candlemas. Maybe because 3. Feb. is St. Blaise Day or the Blessing of the Throats. That involved Candles, too.
