E is for Edgar Degas

Fafa sent me an envelope with this lovely minisheet featuring work by the painter (and sculptor) Edgar Degas (1831-1917). This is 'The Star on the Stage' (1878).

  1. Recently i watched a very interesting documentary about Edgar Degas and her American friend Mary Cassatt , it's thanks to her that Degas and the impressionists were know in the usa :)

    1. It's always fascinating to find out how different artists' work becomes known and/or popular.

    1. Degas, and the portion selected by La Poste, capture it beautifully.

  4. Beautiful stamp! The ballerina seems to be in her own world while dancing, while the man at first glance, looked like being caught on fire :P I enlarged the picture, and it still feels like that, except that I could spot two more people now :)
Have to admit I know almost nothing about his life or his work, even though I've heard his name dozens of times.

    2. Indeed a lot to see. The fire-y curtain fascinates me, too :-)
