P is for President, Progress, Producer, Poet, Politician, Philosopher, Playwright, Plane and Pentathlete (and Postage).

I bought a set of envelopes with vintage stamps in a 'masculine' theme from Edelweiss post. I had wanted to send one to Eric, so I had to wait until I could make up the international postage with two modern stamps that had a similar color palette.

I'll leave it up to you to make the connections to the P themes and the stamps.

Tall Ships on Sunday Stamps

Today's theme for Sunday Stamps is Tall Ships.

There is one on this envelope that I purchase from Edelweiss Post. Issued in 1983, it celebrates the tricentennial of German immigration to the New World on the Concord. This was a joint issue with Germany, and you can read more about this issue here.

I received this wonderful envelope and matching card (collage) from Susan. Of the many beautiful vintage stamps, one is titled Roanoke Voyages, issued in 1984 celebrating 400 years since the first English settlers arrived on the east coast. The names of the vessels involved are no longer known. More details about the release here.

One of the stamps celebrating the centennial of the US National Park Service features a tall ship. I have sent this one a few times, although never received it myself.

From the US National Park Service website: 'The San Francisco Maritime stamp depicts the square-rigger Balclutha and steam tugboat Hercules anchored in the park.' The Balclutha dates from 1886, and the Hercules from 1907.

Brown paper envelopes to Missive Maven and Edelweiss Post

A written thank you to Patrick from Edelweiss Post in envelope 727. 

I also ordered an item from Missive Maven's Etsy store recently, and she sent me a few bonus items. I'll be sending them out over the course of the year, so I won't show them yet. 

In the meantime, MM and her photogenic cats Oberon and Stella were recipients of a mice envelope.

Edelweiss Post

Every now and again I like to browse the Edelweiss Post shop (on Etsy.com). Patrick sells vintage stamps and sets of envelopes stamped with vintage stamps. This year I treated myself to a set for the first time. They will no doubt show up in a future blog post.

Today's blog is to show you the amazing attention to detail Patrick puts into sending his packages.

This is what came. First of all, I am amazed how good the Harry Potter stamps look here, and how well they work with vintage purple. And Patrick takes the time to get hand cancellations - done at the Minneapolis main PO. As he describes it: a beautiful art deco structure built in 1931 on the banks of the Mississippi River. I have quite a few HP stamps left - maybe all they need is a nice kraft paper envelope!

The only thing that was not ideal is that the package took 2 weeks to get here. Perhaps it did indeed travel by airmail.

And then even better, another layer of wrapping inside. I felt like I was opening a Christmas present. Yet another vintage stamp as part of this packaging.

And a great note as well as tea - this level of customer service is really above and beyond - thanks to Edelweiss Post!
