Sunday Stamps - Boats & Ships

USPS has been issuing pre-stamped postcards for many years.

Here are examples from the last two years, a deer and a tree.

They offer a packet of printer-ready, perforated postcards featuring a sailboat stamp, which fits today's Sunday Stamps theme.

Stamp closeup.

The theme also brought to mind this stamp I have received from Eva from Spain:

And I also received this stamp commemorating the Battle of Mobile Bay during the US civil war on a nautically themed envelope.

And I sent this Earthscape stamp featuring barges.

  1. I like to appear in this post. Even of this stamp isn't my favourite.

I'm amazed by the Earthscape envelope. The stamp and the envelope couldn't be better matched!

    1. I like the stamp you used - it has an interesting perspective only using half the face. Of course I like the cat faux-stamp a lot, too!

And you'll be more amazed that the envelope is 20+ years old... I guess it just had to wait all that time for the perfect stamp.

  2. I shall have to look out for those postcards the next time I'm in the USA. I'm with Eva in amazement about the Earthscape envelope/stamp.

    1. I have no idea if you can buy the stamped postcards in post offices - I bought them online.

The Earthscape stamps are, to me, a very special set. So far I have only used 2 of them, as I feel the envelope needs to be pretty much perfect in order for me to part with one. And I have to be really careful with the self-adhesive ones - no chance to try different positions before committing!

  3. I know the theme is ships (and you have some interesting ones) but I really like the deer and tree stamped postcards!

    1. I didn't mean to hijack the theme :)

I really like the deer stamped card the best. The only thing about the deer (and tree) is that they take up a large part of the card - and the card isn't all that big. The cards with the sailboat are a little bit bigger, and the stamp less tall, so a bit more room for writing the note on those.

    1. I did send some in for one of Karen's MMSA challenges last year. The card stock is quite thin, so pretty flimsy compared with the types of card I usually use for collage/printing.

Glad you like the envelope - it is so hard for me to part with those stamps, but I gradually finding the right settings for them.

  6. I used to buy those pre-stamped postcards when I lived in the States. There are some amazing stamped envelopes too.

    1. I have recently purchased some pre-stamped envelopes - I am a little sad that I didn't get the snowflake stamped ones in time - they sold out extremely quickly. Hopefully they'll reissue them.

  7. Oh I am jealous of those pre-stamped postcards, our mail doesn't do anything. The deer and tree give the effect of the old woodcuts although they are done with a 'modern' print process. Love the nautical flags envelope 'what a neat idea and like everyone else think the earthscape fascinating.

    1. Thanks for your great comment. I do like the designs on the postcard stamps (and postcards cost around 75 per cent of letter postage) but the tree and deer ones are a bit flimsy. The printer-ready ones are a bit thicker.

  8. These are all wonderful. I'm happy to learn I'm not the only one who finds it hard to part with some special stamps and cards!

    1. Sometimes it is tough to part with the stamps (and envelopes, too), but when the right combination comes along, out they will go.
