White Shapes

Here are the latest in my white shape mail art series.

XVI to Eric

XVII to Azzaro

The series came about as a way to recycle extra card stock that arrived when buying stamps online from the USPS store, and a set of white pens that I find horrible to use for writing.

What do you see when you look at the shapes?

    1. I often think I can see faces in the shapes, so aliens doesn't surprise me.

  2. I see growth rings of trees. Or wood grain.

  3. They make me think of a zen garden seen from above.

  4. Very interesting... they look like uteri/uses? or cells to me... with embryos or nuclei....
Don't you LOVE that we all see something different?!?!

    1. I do love that everyone sees something different - and that is why I waited until late in the day to reply.

    1. I sometimes think they look like islands - quite a few people have seen something water related in the shapes.

  6. The first makes me think: fingerprint. The second? Maybe something under a microscope. Or a map where the white part is water and the grey parts are land.

    1. Fingerprint is an unusual association - and a cool one.

  8. The first thought I had on the first image was video game controller. The second one is not triggering a label for me.

    1. Interesting that one gave you an image, but the other didn't.

  9. Having my son hooked on PSP since recently, also I see a game controller in the first one! That was before I read Lorig's comment :-)

In the second one I see 'silhouette' portraits: upper row from left to right: a man with big nose seen from aside, a bold man and a monkey seen in front, a baby seen from above; lower row: some oval or ellipse, a thinking man/woman and a tree trunk seen from above.

    1. Other than faces, and islands, I often think the shapes look like bones - the lower one makes me think of a pelvis.

    2. Hahaha, I never would have thought that! So original:-) To me bones are a kind of taboo, as I prefer living creatures..
But indeed nownthat you say so.. Probably of a yet to discover unknown animal :-)

  10. Cela me fait penser à la photo de Jeff Wall "Shapes on a tree" vu à l'exposition "jardins" du grand palais à Paris

  12. These are lovely! They look like zen gardens, trails in the sand around rocks. How nice you found a use for a pen you don't like! White on toned paper is so soothing.

  13. THE FIRST ONE REMINDS ME OF A SWAMP, AS SEEN FROM ABOVE, BUT CAN'T WHY.

  14. I'm with Eva -- they look like aliens. Although, come to think of it, I've never seen an alien. So never mind. Now they look like golf courses. Is this like a Rohrshach test? I think I failed.

    1. I just don't want you to think that I see aliens often... :/

    2. Now golf courses is an original one. It's only a test if you want it to be a test.
