Envelope 81 / Exchange 8

Here's the handmade envelope I sent to Jack M.

Since I placed the stamp on top of the pyramid-shaped address, there is just a stamp+address scan. I placed the global stamp upside down (as an aside, apparently some people have had trouble deciding which way up it is supposed to go - to which I say, it is all a matter of perspective, or maybe geography).

And as always, the back.

Happy New Year!

  1. Finnbadger, I,m so glad to have found you. Your envelopes are extremely creative. Any rules or do I just send? Smash

    1. Thank you - I think Jean is to blame. And I sometimes feel like my envelopes are 'cheating' when I see the art that you send out. Nevertheless, really glad you like my envelopes. Rules? No rules - I tend to respond to one envelope from a sender with one from me, and happy to receive mail in all forms. Some times of the year I am very busy at work and won't be as responsive.

I was wondering if you would mind if I posted the 3D lettering envelope I did for you - I like to show those with the full address (for effect), but didn't want to be presumptuous.

    2. i prefer to think of it as *credit* and not *blame.* grasshopper has not read the book i assigned Steal Like an Artist. as soon as he reads it, he will understand that there is no cheating in art - unless you are selling forgeries. some people start from scratch, others use found materials as their medium. they are equally legitimate/honorable.

also...i believe he had 100 handmade envelopes squirreled away for 20 years. i don't think i had anything to do with his curious envelope-making binge. all i contributed was the use-stamps-for design-inspiration and he was inspired to do something constructive with his envelopes. wait til you see how many i have made in the past month. yikes.

    3. No objections. Anyone over the age of 6 can find me on the net. If I had created that envelope, I would want it published intact also. The only problem is that the day you put it up, I don't get to see a new one
Love this new game...make the envelope too. OK here goes

  2. this one is really cool. because you had so much extra postage on it, you could have put the address on the envelope in a portrait orientation. i don't think you have ever done that, and you may be adverse to portrait orientation. but, if you aren't...you might consider it next time you are using the expensive stamps.

  3. Hi, Jean, I meant *blame* in a good way ;) It is true I haven't done a portrait address - lots of angled ones. For this one I think I tried several positions of the pyramid address, and this one looked best to me, although I try not to obsess too much when placing the stamps/addresses. I'm sure there'll be something at som point that will not be landscape.

Hi, Smash, thanks! That one will get posted eventually, but I wanted something a bit more special for today, even though you have (hopefully) seen it already.

  4. yes, the address in a triangle was a good shape to add. and i am relieved that you still have a grip on how much to obsess. it's a delicate balance.

    1. Easy to see how some artists went a little insane!
