Teeth

Christophe has a project titled MailArTeeth. You can see all his tooth-related mail art here.

He sent me this nice envelope and card to wish me happy 2017.

I've been contributing every now and again for a while now. Here's my latest contribution - I hope it made it, as it was 12 x 12 inches!

(And a confession - I mailed it in a mailing box and it sort of got stuck a little bit, fairly far inside - I couldn't get it to fall all the way into the box, so hopefully that didn't annoy a postal worker).

Update - it arrived in France, slightly bent, and not even postmarked!

Here it is before it's travels.

What do you think about teeth as a mail art topic?

Would you be grossed out or entertained by receiving something like this through the mail?

Psycho

I have lost count of the number of pieces I've sent to Christophe for his ongoing mailarteeth project.

See-through mailarteeth

Another one off to Christophe. This time sent in a clear 'envelope'. I'll be interested to see if this one makes it OK, it was a bit floppy.

Advent - teeth

This year I created a replica of the US flag to scale using toothpaste boxes, replacing the stars with cut out teeth. The flag was cut into 5 pieces sent separately, and they all arrived safely in France for Christophe's mailarteeth project to form the complete picture.

Mailarteeth - don't pick your nose, aka envelope from the dark side ahead - and gold

It's been a while since I've found any good teeth-related mail worth sending.

Envelope to Christophe.

Double-sided card inside. Thanks to Linda F for the scrap of dentist.

Christophe already sent me a response in one of his cleverly folded magazine pages.

Apparently I have sent 18 MailArTeeth pieces to him, so he awarded me a gold medal.

Blue, white and red

If you put the five pieces of toothpaste packaging-related mail together, this is what you get. And there can only be one recipient - Christophe's mailarteeth project. This is the largest piece of mail art (when put together) that i have made - 26.0 cm x 49.4 cm. Who knew the official US flag has such an unusual height to length ratio? (1: 1.9)

I hope all the pieces arrive - otherwise it's going to look a bit odd.

And various flag stamps to cover the postage.

I also sent a Tricolor in for the project (link in the side bar).

Stamped with the new $1 patriotic waves stamp, and last year's red, white and blue forever stamp.

The 'waves' stamps never scan well - they are striking in person. I like these more than the waves of color stamps.

Update:

I sent the five pieces on five consecutive days, and they arrived in France on five consecutive days according to Christophe's blog! I am not sure why it worked out so perfectly, but I love the fact that it did.

Mini-French series part 5 - smile

A surprise smiling envelope from the mailarteeth instigator.

With a wish for a happy 2015, and a note that the mailarteeth will be on exhibition in March.

Mini-French Series part 2 - canines

Yesterday's update can count as part 1.

More Mailarteeth... this time, canine dentition.

Mailarteeth special

This is turning into a mini-French series.

For some reason Christophe's mailarteeth blog fascinates me.

Here's a feline dental record turned into an envelope for his project.

Looking at it now, I wish I had put the tiger stamp in the middle of the teeth and written the address along the bottom.

The reverse.

One of the original envelopes, #77, is perfect for Christophe's project. He thinks I am now addicted to it, and I am tending to agree with him.

Globally stamped.

And off to France.

Bonus! Christophe surprised me with mail art earlier this month.

I think he likes his envelopes to be slightly oddly shaped (look at Eric's blog link in the list to the right - there's a recent one from M. Blaise). And hexagonal stamps! I think that a traditional nickname for France is "L'hexagon" because of the country's shape.

Stamps close up.

And, referencing the batman stamps I put on his pumpkinmailarteeth, one of the caped crusader's many enemies - catwoman.

29 faces in September part I: envelopes 369, 379 & 248

CJ is taking part in 29 faces in September. I realize that the point here is to draw the faces, either improving or starting your face-drawing skills, however I don't have the skill or the time to draw them...

...so I thought I'd do it with envelopes instead. I have a lot of envelopes in stock, and many of them have faces.

So, 29 envelopes with faces, 29 stamps with faces, and 29 more faces inside.

There will be an update every second day from today until the 30th.

1/29: #369 to Jean

I hope Jean didn't keel over when she saw that I handwrote the address.

Here's what it would look like with the 70c butterfly stamp:

And the butterfly image:

2/29: #379 to Christophe

Mailarteeth for the win (and another handwritten address - what's going on!)

Ah, you poor unsuspecting beauty...

Airmail poses a bit more of a challenge, but the vertical format lets me add Mr Lincoln

Time for your makeover.

I like the way both eyes are on the back.

3/29: #248 to CJ

Mr Benedict Cumberbatch makes his envelope debut.

There can be only one choice: Johnny Cash on the lapel.

From the back you'd never know there was a person on the front.

Envelope 206

Fifth French mail art day in a row.

Christophe has a great ongoing call for mail art with teeth (see the link to the side).

This envelope was destined to be sent in.

Envelope 206

Stamped with appropriate meat-colored fireworks!

(I am sure Hester will add that to her file on my dark side).

Addressed - usually I block out the addresses unless I have OKd it with the recipient - I don't think Christophe will mind - I wish I had such a great-sounding address! When I type rue de la Metallurgie think of medieval scientists trying to turn base metals into precious ones with potions and witchcraft. And teeth, definitely teeth.

And the back.

Altered postcard - mailarteeth

Christophe in Lyon has a call out for mailarteeth.

I wanted to send him something after seeing his faux stamp that he added to F&F card 34.

One of the postcards I found featured a mouth... with teeth!

So, taking inspiration from my cut out postcards, I played dentist of the extracting kind - with no anesthetic!!

If this sort of thing grosses you out, now is the time to click away!!!

I glued the extracted teeth to the back. Let's see if they make it all the way to France.

And with colored paper so you can see it a bit better...
